54 JG fighter pilots photo?
Hello gentlemen,
maybe someone can recognize any or all persons from this photo? Probably men from JG 54. On the background I can see FW 190. Unfortunately photo can't be shown normally from reverse side because by someone it was set up on a glue very long time ago and I don't want to risk and remove it from cardboard. Best regards, A. |

Re: 54 JG fighter pilots photo?
Photo is not original. It is a post war copy. Info on the back is probably "russian archive"

Re: 54 JG fighter pilots photo?
Thanks for the answers.
About originality - the photo was found in one old house mansard which were in one of the Ostland WW2 German airfield territory. Maybe photo was made after WW2 by soviets, I can't say it for sure. Also there was some rank insignia birds and other tiny stuff. Best regards, Alex. |

Re: 54 JG fighter pilots photo?
The same photo appears on page 258 of Jean-Bernard Frappé's La Luftwaffe Face au Débarquement Allié in the chapter on I./SKG 10. The caption translates as:
…Only one of them, Ofhr. Herbert Batz (second from left) can be identified. His comrades remain unknown. All seem to be pilots, as attested to by their ranks of Feldwebel or Oberfeldwebel as well as by the Iron Cross first class which decorates their flying jackets. The photo itself is attributed to Wolfgang Zebrowski, who was a pilot with I./SKG 10 in Normandy and wrote a memoir, Nachts über den Wolken. |

As said before, it is not original. "Russian archive" photos have been on the market for decades and have nothing to do with Russian archives. These photos are produced to deceive collectors. Did you find this photo yourself or did the seller come up with that Story? Just be aware that photos are copied and nice stories come with them for free. Regards, Thomas |
