Janine de Greef - member of Comet Line
Janine de Greef has died aged 95. She was one of the last surviving members of The Comet Line which saved over 300 airman from capture escaping via The Pyrenees into neutral Spain.
Her family travelled to Biarritz after their home in Brussels was over run by the German army and they became the key element of the southern section of the line. Aged 16 she frequently escorted downed airmen often on trains but also in the dangerous border area between France and Spain. The family suffered many losses of key personnel and betrayals but continued to operate. At one point the risk became so great MI9 arranged for her to leave France. A very brave lady and family https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janine_de_Greef |
