For what it is worth, Foreman states the Hudson was on patrol in the Bay of Biscay when
it encountered the Bv 138.

The Fokker T.VIIIw R-5 was damaged 13.9.1939 by a He 115 coded M2+LH north of Ameland, where
it nosed over and sank. Crew rescued and returned to the Netherlands after a few days

Re: Blohm & Voss victory claims

Hi Stig,

I have that book by John Foreman (and many others of his), but I believe he is in error here. I believe there is no connection between the two incidents. 233 Squadron was based at this time at Aldergrove airfield in Northern Ireland and P5123 was operating this day off the north-west coast of Ireland in support of convoy HG 50.
If the BV 138 crew encountered another aircraft I have no idea what RAF type or unit might have been operating in January 1941 off the Bay of Biscay. I wonder is the date of the encounter wrong ?

Regards,

Martin.

Hi Martin

Yes I also wondered why they should send something from Aldergrove to the Bay of Biscay.
Cannot but agree with your conclusion!

Cheers

Re: Blohm & Voss victory claims

In comparing Foreman's books from Nov 1941 to April 1942 and the NCA there are a number of times where the serial numbers of the bombers lost don't match up. Add to this some other errors. One day I may do an errata post for these books.

Other HE 115 victories/claims
Foreman has on 21 Aug 1941 Sunderland W3982 201 Sqn shot down NW of the Shetlands F/O A.G. Evill and crew all KIA by 3/KuFlGr 406

FE has 25 Apr 40 Blenhiem W6214 110 Sqn Sgt M Priestly and crew MIA plane most likely came down in the sea after a combat with K6+CR 2/406 while returning from a bombing mission. this is one of those you can't tell what happened
