He111 shot down on 15 june 1940

Hi,

An indentification plate coming from the crash site of a He 111 shot down on 15 june 1940 near Champlitte (France) has these indications :

Heinkel-Werke Gmbh
Orianenburg
Fabr.Nr : 2008
Abn : RM
Is the number 2008 could be the Wk Nr of this Heinkel 111 ?

Thanks in advance

Bertrand H

Re: He111 shot down on 15 june 1940

Hi,

Whilst my records aren't complete I would think that the 2008 may refer to a part of the aircraft.

If it was the WNr it would be an He111 P but I don't have anything against the 15 June 1940. Would this date be definite? Any further details?

Regards

David

Yes it seems that this date is true. The man had 15 years old when he saw in the sky a large explosion very close to Champlitte after a combat fight. Some days later he picked this piece on the crash that he still have in his home...

It is a pity that this number is a part of the aircraft and not the Wk. Nr.

Thank you for helping David

Re: He111 shot down on 15 june 1940

Hi,

The other possibility is that the aircraft was either another type licence built by Heinkel (but I can't think what for this period!) or that a component in this aircraft was made by Heinkel.

I don't know what other aircraft were lost on this day as I haven't got immediate access to my overall loss records, maybe someone else could advise?

If it does prove to be a Heinkel He111 I would be very interested!

Regards

David
