F/O William Charles Hayward Johnson

Dear all,

F/O William Charles Hayward Johnson 132516 was a PoW in Stalag Luft I.

I am trying to determine what squadron he was with when shot down. He is not recorded in "Footprints on the Sand of Time" RAF Bomber Command PoW's.

Any pointers please.

Thank you

Steve

Re: F/O William Charles Hayward Johnson

I have tried to resolve this one previously. He wasn't aircrew, he was an "Admin & Special Duties Branch" officer.

As an LAC (number 1267265) he was commissioned Pilot Officer on 5 Nov 42, confirmed Pilot Officer in Jan 43 and promoted Flying Officer in Jul 1943.

So I believe he was a post-Jan 43 prisoner. Could he have been POW in Italy ? or Europe after June 44 ? He was born in London 17 March 1917 and died late 1982 from memory.

Black6,

Thank you for your post and additional information.

I have no idea about this chap, was not aircrew Bomber Command, I don't have access to Fighter or Coastal command losses. Next time I am at the NA I pull his Liberation Report.

Cheers

Steve
