Loss of Beaufighter TF Mk. X "E" LZ287 on IKARIA - February 9th, 1944
Bristol Beaufighter TF Mk. X LZ287 “E” was shot down by four Bf 109G-6 of 7. + 9./JG 27 on February 9th, 1944 over the eastern Aegean sea. This aircraft crashed on the island of Ikaria, probably close to the village of Kampos (Cambos). Both crew members were KIA.
No. 252 Squadron lost 3 of 4 Beaufighter that day. LZ287 “E”, island of IKARIA F/Lt. MEYER, Reginald H. R. – Pilot - 100613 F/Sgt. L. – Navigator / Wireless Operator – 1320816 - commemorated on the Alamein Memorial LZ271 “D”, off Cape Zulufi at sea F/Sgt. SQUIRES, Alfred W. – Pilot - 1391766 – commemorated at Alamein Memorial Column 280 F/Sgt.
