4 July 1944 dogfights : over Normandy

Hi,
Please can we identify the American unit(s) which fought against the JG 2 at the end of afternoon on 4 July 1944 ?

The action took place over the sector of Evreux - Beaumont le Roger - Bernay. 18 h 15 - 18 h 30.

How many P-47 shot down ?

Thank you

Phil.

56th FG near Conches/Evreux

One - Sam Dale 62FS shot down near Evreux - probably by Me 109.

The 56th was credited w/20 Me 109s plus a couple of damaged 190s

78th P-47 hit by flak and lost near Routot

Only 8th AF P-47s lost on July 4

I, III, and IV JG 27 lost 5 Bf 109s in the same area and time period. They also claimed 5 P-47s.

John - it is possible units of the 9th AF lost some jugs but only one P-47 (56th FG) lost one in a fight that day..
