Re: Jabo staffel JG 27

Jack,

These were not British/Commonwealth soldiers, but Greek soldiers. An excerpt from the note accompanying one of the photo from the series.

"The Greeks fight on

Three members of the Royal Hellenic Air Force pose on the tail assembly of a German plane destroyed on the ground in fighting in the Middle East...."

Re: Jabo staffel JG 27

Thank you Sinisa.

Interesting, to me the 109 looks to have crash landed - bent prop and landing gear failed, but 'Destroyed on the ground' sounds like the Greeks came across an overrun Axis airfield. That would put it either very early 1942 post Operation Crusader, or very late 1942 post El Alamien?

regards,
Jack

Re: Jabo staffel JG 27

You are welcome, Jack.

I believe that the latter (i.e., late 1942 - post the 2nd battle of El Alamein) is the case. The Jabo Staffel, if these photos indeed show its aircraft, did not exist early in 1942.

Regards,
Sinisa
