Hello Geoff,

Have you already tried the combination of some keys on your keyboard? That´s how I seach for those names:

1. Put your Numeric Lock (on your keyboard) on
2. For ü keep the ALT-key pressed and type 129 (numeric keys)
ö = ALT + 148
ä = ALT + 132
ë = ALT + 137

Try other combinations as well for é (ALT + 130) and other characters. Good luck!

By the way, what is the adrees for this site? How can I do the search (I only know some basic words in German).

I collect III Reich documents (Soldbuch, Wehrpass, Awards-Certificates, etc.) and sometime I´d like to check if there is any info about a specific soldier.

Its easier to set your keyboard LAYOUT to (US-)International, this way you can access all the special keys without a need for any extra code or knowledge.

~+a=ã

'+c=ç

`+e=è

'+e=é

"+e=ë

Combined with other letters it makes up for those special letters, not sure if this is forced by the international keyboard setting, but [CTRL][ALT][s] = ß

Haven't used ALT-keys for ages, this beats it every time. Only snag is that if you want to use these signs independantly you need to press space after the key, so ['][space]='

If the letter you are typing does not combine, then you can proceed without space.

Takes a day to get used to and then you'll never look back.

The German war graves website is at http://www.volksbund.de/

It is all in German, but if you go here http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=3595 you will find directions in English on how to search for a grave.

There have been slight changes since the instructions were written, so on the http://www.volksbund.de/ page, look at the light blue buttons on the left side of the page, and click on 'Grabersuche'. This will take you to a page which has a small photo on it. To the right of this it says '...zur olinesuche', clicking on this will take you to the page where you can enter the details of the person you are looking for the grave of.

It seems that if a person has no known grave, a search will return a 'not found' result, unlike the CWGC, where you will still get a result. Perhaps unlike the CWGC, the Germans do not commemorate those who have no known grave on memorials.
