Attack on England July 10th 1940

Hi,

Trying to identify what units were involved in the attack of July 10th 1940.

Early morning raids directed against (apparently) airfields, looking specifically for those on attacks against RAF bases in East Anglia.

TIA

Steve

Vol. 1 of Wing Leader’s Battle of Britain Combat Archive would probably help — it starts on 10 July. Otherwise, you might find the Western Front daily sitreps on the German Docs in Russia site helpful (but these are in German of course).

10 July was almost entirely against convoys or shipping. However, there is mention that Martlesham Heath, West Raynham and Marham were attacked around 0600hrs. No units, numbers or details but KG 3 was up and about around this time

Re: Attack on England July 10th 1940

As per Simon Parry one II./KG 3 Do 17 was shot down but that was around 05.20H

Since Germany was +1H at the time it should correspond to 06.20H, which seems to fit if Chris is talking German time and Parry British time.

Cheers
Stig

This Do 17 from 4./KG3 attacked airfield in Honnington but was later intercepted and shot down by enemy fighters.
