Hello all

Re: GC II/7 claims

Hi Michel,

If you send me your e-mail address I will send you my complete database of 332 (Free French) Wing. It includes all the victories of the Wing from June 1943 until EOW, with notes.

best regards

Keith

Re: GC II/7 claims

Hi Keith

Be careful

332 (Free French) Wing : it is NOT Free French Wing

The squadrons were with ex-Vichy Forces before and later with 332 wing (1ere escadre) ; all came from North Africa.

The difference with Free and not are already told in previous topics

Re: GC II/7 claims

No problem Bertrand, FAFL it is.

I was using the title that is used in most of the sources I have. 332 Wing FAFL it is.

Sorry, see my exchange on the Forum Matti Salonen where he has a far better solution -

Re: GC II/7 claims 10.10.43

A Ju88D-1 of 1(F)/33 was reported lost on 11 October 1943 8H+KH or 8H+EH 0430 Ltn Rainer Bernezung, Fw Karl Sutter.

Is this the aircraft? I agree the time 0430, makes this unlikely.

regards

Keith

Re: GC II/7 claims

Once again I misremember. I had the same discussion with Brian Bines four years ago! See our exchange in April 2019. It was apparently the above named aircraft, crewed by members of another unit.

I misspoke. The pilots name was Ltn Rainer Berneburg.

I am afraid that my statement "I believe the Ju88D-1 was crewed by members of 3(F)/123, so there's a link there" appears confident but I am beggared where I got my info from!

Re: GC II/7 claims

An interesting detail is that Gauthier was flying a Spitfire IX rather than a Spitfire Vc on this sorties. Info courtesy of our colleague David Mechin's superb articles on Gauthier.
