Loss of Bf 109G-6/U4 of II./JG 27
Does a reader possibly have further details about the following loss: 30 Apr. 1944 Time 15xx hr. II./JG 27 Area of Vendeville, France Bf 109G-6/U4 WNr. (fragment) 4401 90 per. loss to enemy action (Luftkampf) Oblt. N.F.N. Von Lubisch FF (erste Name unbekannt) I am specially interested in the complete Werknummer, SKZ, tactical markings, and the Stab or Staffel to which Von Lubisch belonged. Interestingly, neither Werner Girbig nor Prien/Stemmer seem to have entries for this loss in their unit histories of JG 27 and II./JG 27. RA |

Re: Loss of Bf 109G-6/U4 of II./JG 27
RA - Please remember,Werner Girbig was one of the first who strove, also without technical aids that help you find all facts and figures out - the following generations had it easy up there to serve but he knows 100 % Lubich was recently at JG 2, some photos and letters prove this, but nobody knows everything - Oberleutnant Ivo von Lubich-Edler von Milova JG 51, JG 105 - 7./ JG 2 G 6 440 001

Re: Loss of Bf 109G-6/U4 of II./JG 27
Grüß Gott Carl, Peglar, and Jim P! Thank you so much for taking the time and interest to present your details of the loss of Bf 109G-6 WNr. 440 001 on 30.04.44. Excellent answers, just exactly what I had hoped for! In the way of clarification, my information came from HW 5/478 - CX/MSS/T175/106. The unit was wrongly given there as "(Roman) II JG (Smudge) 7," which was interpreted as "Fair indications 27." The ULTRA message also states "G-6 U 4," which fits nicely with the 44x xxx series. Just as you fellows have stated, it also says "(torn off) km. N.W. Montargis (small smudge) to 3 km. N.W. (B% Vendeville)." So, again, thank you both for responding. A big help indeed. RA |
