Seeking pilot identity from this photo....

Hi all,

Perhaps its a bit of a long shot, but hey ho, heres hoping!

I'm trying to find the identity of the pilot in this photo. I dont know anything about him apart from that he probably made a claim for a B-17 called 'Sachound' (42-31467, IN-J) of 613 Squadron, 401st BG(H). This B-17 crashed in at St Gerard, Ardennes, 10 miles south-west of Namur, Belgium. The attack on the B-17s were reportedly made by Bf109s on 2nd March 1944.

If anyone has an inkling as to who this pilot is, I'd be grateful for your help.

Regards,

S.

Noticing the apparently white stripe on the wing of the aircraft in the background. Was this was typical of JG 2 aircraft in Tunisia?

Re: Seeking pilot identity from this photo....

The pilot on the left with his mechanic is Uffz/Fw Willi Morzinek of 4 & 1/JG 2. Flying from Reims, on 2 Mar 44 he shot down a B-17 (his 11.5th kill) at 1407 hrs 20 kms SE of Charleroi, landing back at Charleroi 1442 hrs. before you ask, he is no longer with us

Re: Seeking pilot identity from this photo....

Thanks to both of you.

Chris, can I just ask where you recognise him from, have you seen the photo before perhaps? Has it been published somewhere?

Many thanks for your help, appreciated.

Regards,

S.
