24 April 1944

Hello gentlemen,

on April 24, 1944 the JG.106 lost a Bf.109 (destroyed) while three were damaged (with 1 pilot killed and 1 wounded) in combat against 8th Air Force while VbdFhr Schule lost 4 Bf.109s (with 3 pilots killed and 1 wounded).
Can anybody help with the details of these human and material losses?
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards.

Marco

Re: 24 April 1944

There was one Lt. Karl Broo with 2./JG 106 around that period - http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/archiv...p?t-39898.html , sounds too similar to Lt. Karl Groo to be a coincidence, or is it?

Re: 24 April 1944

Good morning, Sidney!

You are right! After checking deZeng/Stankey right name must be
Karl Broo. I´ll correct this in loss list JG 106.

Thank you!

Herzliche Grüsse aus Oberschwaben,

Wolfgang

Re: 24 April 1944

Good morning, Wolfgang.

Lt. Karl Broo was one of the late WW2 period Luftwaffe aces, hence I was familiar with his name to some extent.

Thank you for the loss-list details provided. I am glad that I was of some assistance in the matter.

Best Regards,
Sinisa

Re: 24 April 1944

Wolfgang, Sinisa, Rémi,
Thank you very much for your input.
Do you know the percentual damege of the Bf.109 G-2, W.-Nr.10820 of Lt. Karl Broo?
It remains a mystery the loss of 4 Bf.109s of "Verbandsführerschule für Jagdfliegerausbildung" (a unit totaly unknown to me) based on Fels am Wagram which, according to Caldwell, occurred on this day.
Thanks. Best regards.

Marco

Re: 24 April 1944

The plane of Broo was only superficialy damaged,

Concerning Caldwell sayings, thought he is a respected author, so big losses for one unit in one day hv could hv not be missed by others "searchers"

To say that very few losses are registred for that unit

Re: 24 April 1944

The "Verbandsführerlehrgang des GdJ" was based at Fels am Wagram together with I./JG 27 in spring 1944. The latter unit lost four aircraft that day against American fighters.
