Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Well Ed

The AAC 1 c/n range 1001 - 1038 is usually stated as belonging to captured and reworked aircraft. So far I have only seen very incomplete information regarding these aircraft.

It would not surprise me however if some of them had actually been finished in Colombes with German WNr but had not yet been delivered and of course the French then painted their own c/n on the outside. Also there were loads of Ju 52/3m all over Europe and France certainly received quite a lot of them, reworked them and put them into service using c/n in this range. Since the French own production in Colombes simply started all over again where they had stopped building for the Germans it must have been easy enough to repair/rework/overhaul any non-airworthy airframe received.

Cheers
Stig

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Thank you Stig. I know the US supplied the Chinese Nationalists with aircraft, and the Japanese received a few examples of German aircraft. This is the first time I'm seeing a German aircraft with these markings.

Best,
Ed

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Ed

In 1944-47 France had very little choice but building aircraft they previously built for the Germans. Both economically and equipment wise it made perfect sense to incorporate as many aircraft of those types they could find "on the field" so to say. Thus we see not only Ju 52s but also Fi 156, Ar 296, Si 204, Bf 108, Me 208 etc being built and other types reworked/reused (Ju 88 and Ju 188 etc)

Together with what they aquired from the Allies, France managed to stay "afloat" during the dog years immediately post war.

I agree that it is a very interesting photo. Without going through every photo I have of AAC 1s I do tend to think this is the first one I see in the c/n 1001 - 1038. So a very nice find Ed. Thank You!

Cheers
Stig

Re: eBAy: Captured german planes

Hello Roger and Snautzer,
Regarding Posts #3397 and #3398: Roger, I am pleased that you were able to snag this photo. I offer the following in the hopes that you can correct me if necessary.
This Bf 109 G-12 is unique for several reasons. Purportedly abandoned at Einsatzhafen Landau-Isar, Germany (R-69) (coordinates 48.725000 12.695833), it is marked +22 white on its port side and 22+ white on its starboard side. It also sports a KG55 Griffon crest on its port cowling.
Respectfully,
Steve Sheflin
