Unknown Emblem on an early Bf 109

Dear All,

On David Weiss' excellent website there is a photo here http://www.messerschmitt-bf109.de/di...otonummer=8319 with an early Bf 109 sporting an emblem in front of the windscreen. Can anyone assist with identifying the Gruppe, whose this aircraft belonged to?

Regards,
Sinisa

Re: Unknown Emblem on an early Bf 109

Dear Sidney,

A clear explanation concerning that photo has been given by Jochen in LRG forum.
I can't give you the link, I'm sorry.
If I remember well, Jochen talked about a personnal emblem, some kind of arm skeleton/bones ... whatever.

But, concerning the emblem Under Wind screen .. I agree with you, but without answer.

Regards, Franck.

Re: Unknown Emblem on an early Bf 109

Thank you Gentlemen. I take that the photo was taken sometime in the autumn of 1939 (see the leafless trees) around the time of the Gruppe's conversion to the Bf 109 E1/E3 aircraft.

Regards,
Sinisa

Hi,

this emblem was later painted on Bf109E.

Regards

Robert

Dear Sidney,

We have two emblems on this machine. Normal one under windscreen and personal one between <I and cross featuring a boned arm (Correct English?) handling a crane according what has been described by Jochen Prien.

Regards, Franck.

I think, if I understood how "things" work, we will discover it in future LiF issue...

Sidney,
I really did appreciate that part of your comment. David really needs that kind of support.
He is not the only one, but I'm not going to write a list.. they already know.
And I don't need/want to receive a comment saying "thanks Franck, Thanks Sidney". Not here at least.
We know what we are talking about; that must be enough.

Since you decide to write that, I had nothing to do but to say "I really did apppreciate your comment".

For the rest, it's up to individual members.

Re: Unknown Emblem on an early Bf 109

Post No.6: Franck, thank you for the clarification - to be quite honest, I did not realise that there was a personal emblem between the Stab's "Chevron and bar" and the Balkenkreuz. Also, the emblem in front of the cockpit did not appear like the I./JG 21 emblem to me. Anyway,...

Re: Unknown Emblem on an early Bf 109

Hey Sidney,

Me either ... But check the spinner. If we can count on something during this period ... The spinner colour!
That's the reason I fully did accept Jochen comments and having (Jochen, not me) a close shot on this emblem, we can count on that.

That's the reason, too, I didn't accept Bernd comment concerning a "Rote 1"... The spinner colour.
I, of course, can be wrong as usual but I need - we need - strong evidences.
