German crashes - 29 Nov 1943 - Vollenhove - The Netherlands
Hello,
In my area - around Vollenhove, the Netherlands - 29 Nov 1943 did have several crashes. 4 German crashes do have my interest. 1. Bf-109G-6 - Werke Nr.410106 - Oblt. Heinrich Klöpper 2. Bf 109G-6 - Werke Nr. 510285 - ?????? 3. Bf 109G-6 - Werke Nr. 510930 - ?????? 4. Bf 109G-5 - Werke Nr. 27100 - ??????? for the numbers 2,3,4 , I do have three names, but they seemed mixed up. those names are: Uffz. F. Kostenbader Ofw. H. Brackhagen Obfhr. M. Spörk Any info and details about this is welcome. Regards PATS |

I have for JG 1: 29 November 1943: Oberleutnant Heinrich Klöpper, Staffelkapitän of 7./JG 1, killed in Bf 109 G-6/U4 "White 1" (W.Nr. 410 106), crashed returning from aerial combat due to bad weather, southwest of Meppel 29 November 1943: Oberfähnrich Manfred Spörk of 7./JG 1 killed in Bf 109 G-6 "White 3" (W.Nr. 15 930), crashed returning from aerial combat due to bad weather, southwest of Meppel 29 November 1943: Oberfeldwebel Hermann Brackhagen of 7./JG 1 killed in Bf 109 G-6 "White 5" (W.Nr. 15 285), crashed returning from aerial combat due to bad weather, southwest of Meppel All three pilots of the Kette were killed when they dove into low clouds and did not pull up in time. This is what I have so far Oldenhof - crash location Klöpper - is WSW of Meppel Crash location Bergkampen/Kadoelen is 1500 m to the East of Klöpper location. - so also WSW of Meppel - Location Brackhagen "unknown" so far .......got an idea but have to verify this with a "crash" map. Heinrich Klöpper - Mon 29 Nov 1943 - in the garden of castle "De Oldenhof" - 14:30 1 KIA Oberleutnant Heinrich Klöpper, Staffelkapitän of 7./JG 1, was killed 29th Nov 1943 This German fighter was shot down in a dogfight by 2 American P-38 - Lightnings - came down near castle "de Oldenhof" - just outside Vollenhove - located WSW of Meppel Same castle were 2 EVD's from the "Sleepy Lagoon" were hiding for 2 weeks in 1945 On the 10th of March 1984 they recovered parts of the plane and got certainty about the pilot's name [IMG]file:///D:/homepage/oblt-heinrich-klopper.jpg[/IMG] Staffelkapitän Oberleutnant. Frank D. Murphy navigator on a B-17 Flying Fortress of the 100th Bomb Group on a clear sunny autumn afternoon of October 10, 1943 ...... Oberleutnant Heinrich Klöpper, then twenty-five years of age, was one of Germany’s top 100 scoring fighter pilot aces of WWII. Official German wartime records credit him with 94 aerial victories He was a holder of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross and Golden Goblet when he shot us down We were his 87th victim Seven weeks later, on November 29, 1943, Oblt. Klöpper himself was killed in a dogfight with two American P-38 fighter aircraft. (For a perspective of Oblt Klöpper’s accomplishments, the all time leading American air ace is Maj. F. Kostenbader - Biddinghuizen, Flevopolder Bf 109G-5 - Werke Nr. 27100 - 5./JG 3 - Markings Schwa 9 - recovered + 1x MIA by RNLAF-11(10) - Nov 1962 - East-Flevoland - - location known - - Locations and names have to be checked more careful - info PATS - Bergkampen / Kadoelen crash location is known to me and verified - 2 witnesses Klöpper 94th claim was a P38 - near Hasselt S. of Meppel - time 14:15 Six P-38's were lost that day The P-38 of 2nd Lt. Vermisst gemeldet Gradnetz GO 4/5. Recovered November 1962 by Royal Neth Air Force in reclaimed land Oost-Flevoland. Now Ysselsteyn Grave TE-12-135. |

The 510xxx WNr. are wrong for 1943. These would be Bf 109G-14s. The earliest I have for this WNr. block are in August 1944. John Manrho's WNr. from the 15xxx block are definitely much more appropriate for 1943.
