Identity of missing airman?

Hi,

I bought a portrait photo of a Luftwaffe flier with an inscription on the back.

It states he was lost on the 23rd November 1940.

His first name is Theo. I cannot make out his surname although it clearly starts with an A. I could not find him on the Fold 3 site.

Was he lost over England at that time?

Many thanks

Rick

Hi Rick
It seems to be
BS: Gefr Theo Appel vm (Ju 88/4D+CN, 5/KG 30)
Appel is missing but was later legally pronounced dead.

best wishes

Hi JoMe,

Now you say it is Appel - it becomes obvious to read.

Was he on a mission to England?

Many thanks

Rick
