Re: Crashes in Aalst/Waalre

Ray, for the British planes you could use Mr. Chorley's Bomber Command Losses, or go to www.lostbombers.co.uk
There you just enter the serial number of the plane involved and it will give you all known info that is known. Danny

Re: Crashes in Aalst/Waalre

The Halifax from 419 Squadron was coded "VR*B". It failed to return from an attack on Cologne, and was shot down by a night fighter. There were no survivors.

If you know the crash-sites we can go over them sometime and see if there is anything left. I live not far from you and recover aircraft and MIAs. Danny

I'm also a md geek.
So far I located 1 site of the six. Now I'm trying to find out which one.So far just scrapmetal turned up.
I also know about two others but not exactly yet. I'm talking with a witness and he's gonna show me the locations soon.

Re: Crashes in Aalst/Waalre

Sometimes it is worth Google Earthing an area because disturbed earth sometimes shows up in the soil or crops that are darker or lighter than the surrounding area.
I know that at Arnhem, it is still possible to see the burnt earth marks where a Dakota crashed each autumn when the field is ploughed. Just a thought, it might help!
