Re: Junkers 88 lost at south Godstone Surrey

Hello,

Thanx NUPPOL for posting this excellent photo, one of three that I know of if this crash. We carry this incident in the EoE LW Loss DB as:

"27 November 1940: 6./KG77 Junkers Ju88A-5 (7116). Lost bearings and suffered engine failure during night sortie and abandoned by crew near Reims. Aircraft flew on and eventually hit power cables and broke up at Danemore Lane, Blindley Heath, South Godstone, 1.35 a.m. Crew all baled out unhurt. Aircraft 3Z+EP 100% write-off.
This incident caused considerable problems for the British authorities, an extensive manhunt for the crew lasting over six days."

Does anyone have any information that would help us ID the 6./KG77 crew of this a/c that apparently bailed out successfully near Reims, France?

Cool Re: Junkers 88 lost at south Godstone Surrey

Thanks-very much!! I've seen pictures of the crash in question-and a location given but no date or records of the fate of the crew!

other planes that flew and crashed after being abandoned include a Dornier Do 17 20 OCtober 1940 during Battle of Britain {See photo of crash on page 456 and report of crash on p.453 No #9 {Luftwaffe Losses} in MAson's classic "Battle over Britain"} the B-24 "Lady Be Good" in April 1943.
