Re: Lutwaffe engagement 12 May 1940 - SE Louvain
Hi all,
On the 12th May, 1940, SE of Louvain a Lysander was shot up, a 13 Sqn aircraft. Time estimated 15:50Hrs. The Lysander got away, flown by F/L W. BLACKWOOD. Who claimed the possibly shoot or damaged one of these. Don't know what type of aircraft. Any help would be great. Cheers Danny

Re: Lutwaffe engagement 12 May 1940 - SE Louvain
Danny,
In my humble opinion...if the machine was NOT shot down, it WAS NOT claimed. And the Germans did not allowed for "damaged" claims, as far as I know (like the Allied). It was either shot down (with an Abschüssmeldung and testimonies - wingmen or ground observers) or it was not "claimed". A. |

Re: Lutwaffe engagement 12 May 1940 - SE Louvain
The unit most active in this area on the 12th (Gembloux-Louvain) was I./JG27.
But as said by Adriano, no claim because no shoot-down. Cheers, Pieter |

Re: Lutwaffe engagement 12 May 1940 - SE Louvain
On the "biography" of Erbo Graf von Kageneck there is a passage that suggest that he and other two members of 2./JG 1 tried to shot down a "nimble" reconaissance machine that managed to slip away, on the afternoon of the 12th May 1940.
I do not know however the whereabouts or local of his patrol line, but it "could be" a possible candidate as well. Humbly, Adriano |
