Help please with Written German

Hi all

I am continuing research into Hauptmann Willi Gaul. The Flugbuch I have only covers flights to October 1943 but other documents state he was still flying until 1945. I have one document that contains the attached written text and would very much appreciate a more fluent German-reader confirming the written words.

Thank you for the help.

Re: Help please with Written German

Tim,

The attached document is basically declaration on oath that Hauptmann Willi Gaul (can't see his name on the document though) is who said he is (i.e., the Staffelkapitän of the 2. Fernaufklärungsgruppe 22). The declaration is given because his Wehrpass (i.e., military service card, I understand) was left in Germany after his Staffel (Gruppe) had been transferred to Denmark. The declaration was dated 30 March 1945.

Regards,
Sinisa

Re: Help please with Written German

Good morning Tim !

Hope this helps.

Have a sunny sunday !

Horst Weber

Thanks Sinisa. I knew the gist of the document but I am trying to squeeze out every bit of evidence I can.

Thank you very much Horst. This is perfect.

Thank you both for your help. Very much appreciated.

Re: Help please with Written German

Just for interest, here is the whole document. It is printed on very thin paper so I scanned it inside a plastic protector (apologies for the poor quality).

Again, thank you very much for the help.

Re: Help please with Written German

You are welcome Tim. Perhaps I overdid it a bit (I skimmed your post too quickly), but my post might still be useful to other members, who cannot read the original in German.

Best Regards,
Sinisa

Re: Help please with Written German

This document is a statement that Willi Gaul is the Staffelkapitän of 2.(F)/22.
His Wehrpass (personal military record book) was left behind in Germany due to a hastily transfer of this unit from Barth in Pommern to Vaerloese in Denmark.

2./S.A.Gr.126 was renumbered and renamed 2.(F)/22 on 26. March 1945 and Willi Gaul was appointed Staffelkapitän on 30. March 1945. When the German forces in Denmark capitulated on 5. May 1945, the 2.(F)/22 transferred from Vaerloese to Lister (Lista) in Norway on the same day. This is the reason why the document is dated Oslo (Capital of Norway) 28. July 1945. The following aircraft of 2.(F)/22 were transferred:
Me 410A-1 W.Nr. 410098
Me 410B-2 W.Nr. 410209, 420483
Si 204D-1 W.Nr. 251502, 252059, 252040, 321554, 321904, 321933
He 111H-6 W.Nr. 7760
Willi Gaul was on board one of these aircraft.
The three Messerschmitt's and the lone Heinkel were all destroyed by RAF on Lister airfield. Some of the Siebels were later transferred to Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel and taken over by RAF.

Re: Help please with Written German

Thank you very much Seaplanes. I was rather confused by the references to 126 and 22 but it all makes more sense now and the additional information helps my research a lot! Thank you for the help.
