F/Lt Arthur G Donahue

F/Lt A.G. Donahue, A US BofB vet was shot down and killed 11 Sep 42 while attacking a Ju 88 off the Belgian coast around 0630. He was with 91 Sqn. Does anyone know what Ju88 unit got him? It could be a recon unit.

Re: F/Lt Arthur G Donahue

Interesting man. He wrote two books about his experiences in the RAF.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Donahue

This next write up states that he shot down the JU 88 in the final encounter, but his Spitfire had suffered damage.

Probably Ju 88 A-5, 10603 of 3.(F)/33 which force-landed at Ardenburg after combat suffering 60% damage and Uffz Wilhelm Jung (gunner) wounded

Re: F/Lt Arthur G Donahue

SGLO gives same Wnr. Ju-88 at Aardenburg, just inside NL on the NL-BE border.

Re: F/Lt Arthur G Donahue

Luftwaffedata.co.uk has it as #1063 (I should have looked there first)

As for Donahue's claims from some old note I have from the book on British Aces and the Foreman 1941 here is what I have:

7 May 41 1 Bf 109 destroyed and 1 Damaged

17 Aug 41 1 Bf 109 destroyed (no known losses ect for the above and 1 of the Bf 109s destroyed may be a probable)

26 sep 41 Klemm 35 St/Jafu 2 #4535 35% Unt Heinz Bram KIA

11 Sep 42 Ju 88 probable or damaged (as mentioned above)

Anyone have any more info on them.
