ID of Crashed Wellington and others 1940 on eBay?
Hello,
This series of photos appears to include several a/c, including a purported Wellington. These were probably all taken on the continent during 1940, perhaps during the WC and BoB period. Does anyone recognize and of these crashes, and can provide further info to ID them? http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ht_7239wt_1283 Regards, |

Difficult Could be OJ from 149 Sqn or QO from 432Sqn though cannot see the \ on the Q. 149Sqn looks the best guess. regards Mark |

Hi Larry,
second picture would make me think of French aircraft (roundels), particularly the vertical fin with three colors on the right of the picture, that would look like a Potez 63 vertical fin. GC |

432 Squadron formed on 1 May 1943, so we can rule that one out.

Re: ID of Crashed Wellington and others 1940 on eBay?
Larry, Gilles,
The main aircraft in the second photo is definitely a Fairey Battle, and there is a second Fairey Battle tail unit just behind it (K9383, 'Z' of 226 Sqn.). There is another view of these at the top of page 25 in issue 109 of AIR ENTHUSIAST. Other E-Bay photos have shown the serial for K9383. The location is Reims. That earthen bank shows up in many views of Reims. It would be great to see that wreck from the other side ! Regards, Martin Gleeson. |
