Night rockets attack.

Hi,

Colleagues,
At 01.20 - 01.50 5 June 1944, Allied aircraft twice attacked a German convoy in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the coast of Italy, sinking 2 landing barges (rockets) and damaging one (bomb). Please help me find out which planes found the convoy at night and conducted such a successful attack?

Re: Night rockets attack.

Hello,
Beaufighters of 39 Sqn RAF attacked some shipping that night, while sister 272 Sqn attacked targets inland (Italy).

Re: Night rockets attack.

Many thanks!
Are there any details of the attack. at least the number of attacked aircraft?
And another question. The same attack was carried out after midnight on June 9 in the Ligurian Sea off the coast of the Genoese Riviera. The landing barge F 411 was sunk by rockets. Which aircraft distinguished themselves in this attack?

Re: Night rockets attack.

Hello all,
Laurent's link is very useful, tks.
And Sergey, I hope You checked 39 Sqn's orb.
Also check No.6 Sqn's orb (Hurricane). In June 1944 active in anti-shiping ops (some night) near coasts of France and NW Italy (from Borgo), and Greece and Yugoslavia (from Grottaglie and Vis). Serials are listed, but no codes. Another sources claims that 'E' coded Hurricane IVRP KX806, flown by F/O Stevens, was shot down near Piombino by fire from F-boats during atttack on convoy off river Ombrone 5.6.44.
Cheers
Zoran
