Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

I have seen cowling but this does not mean it is replaced, just painted in another department, as rest elements of the airframe. I agree about two dark green shades but no idea how to name it. Will make test profile later...

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

By the way- three white dots on horizontal tail, what that could be?

IMHO, position and style of the Werke Nummer, suggest that it is a 463 606, thus an Erla-produced Bf 109G-14.

Camouflage seems clearly to be a modified in-the-field version over the usual Erla pattern (which was already darker than MTT pattern, for example).

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

There is one with similar pattern but without any insignia but national. This could suggest that toned down was even made in the same assembly plant? Thanks for WNr

... but an W.Nr. 463 606 didn't exist. So it's more likely 460 606 or 464 606.

Best regards

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

Correction duly noted. Thanks as always, Jörg.

Then, I would bet on 464 606...BTW also the style of the white spiral on the spinner is typical of Bf 109G-14s of that batch...(I have seen only now the two other frontal shots).

Pity that the nose oil filler hatch can't be seen clearly, because I would bet this aircraft belongs to those G-14s fitted with the bigger oil nose tank (from "horseshoe" shape to annular one) and thus had the "higher" placed one, like on G-10s and K-4s.

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source

One question- is it possible that only last three digit was painted? They are a bit high and maybe not space for full number. Sorry, image is small and compressed so not much info could be seen.

Quite simply, no. The rest of the number is there, notwithstanding the bad quality of the photo. As I have shown you privately, there is quite enough space for the full Werke Nummer, especially the slimmer ones applied by Erla...
