Re: Help - September 1939 Campain in Poland

Hello Kris,

maybe this is the a/c from Wettererkundungsstaffel 1, that was shot down by aa-fire on 11.09.1939 over Warsaw, crew of BO Dr. Schmidt? all MIA. Fuselage code must be B7+?A. The unit used white individual letters for there a/c.

Best regards,
Bf 110

Re: Help - September 1939 Campain in Poland

Maybe - but who knows for sure

Look this - very interested (but it is not my post):

"...I'm looking for information on planes this unit used in Polish Campaign. All sources I've already seen say that it flew Heinkel He 111 J's.

But I've lately seen photo of a name plate that is said to have been taken off a plane shot down by AA fire over Warsaw on September 11th. It says Typ: HE 111 F, which is rather confusing since - according to all sites I've came across and books I have on hand - none of Luftwaffe's units that were used in Poland had this model of Heinkel in late August/September 1st (date on documents varies depending on unit; 26.08.1939 in case of Wekusta 1).

Could it be, that Wekusta 1 received this plane as replacement? It lost He 111J B7+BA over Poznań on September 2nd. ...."

Kris,

fuselage, fin and wings of the He 111F and He 111J were identical, the only difference between these two series were the engines.

If your plate was from the wing it's not surprising that this component has a He 111F stamp.
