To make sure that there is no misunderstanding, like in Harrie's case.

Re: Bristol Blenheim iV 2 July 1940 Lost Holland
Hello,
We carry this in the Revised British EoE Loss DB as: 2 July 1940: 82 Squadron, Watton Blenheim IV P6895. Shot down by Bf109s during daylight photo-reconnaissance mission over new aqueduct on the Dortmund-Ems canal and crashed near Kerkweg in Veenhuizen, Heerhugowaard, 21 km north-east of Alkmaar, 10.50 a.m. (Pilot) S/L Hurll Fontayne Chester, (Obs) Sgt Herbert Histon, and (Wop/AG) Sgt Robert James McAllister all killed. Aircraft UX*H a write-off. Two German pilots filed claims in respect of this aircraft; Oberlt Leo Eggers (Staffelkapitän) of 2./JG21 north-west of Hoorn at 10.44 a.m. and Fw Jakob Schmitt of 2./JG51 30 km south of Den Helder at 10.55 a.m. Are there any photos known of the crash site or wreckage for this Blenheim? Regards, Larry Hickey EoE Project Coordinator |
