Ju 88 Losses in Convoy Battle
The 1942 Bestandliste of KGr 106 show these Ju 88 A-4 losses to enemy action:
Mar-42 4 Jun-42 8 Jul-42 8 Aug-42 6 I have a recollection of a small hardback non-fiction book published in the UK c. the 1967-70 period describing an assault on a Gibraltar convoy by Lw Ju 88s which was pretty conclusively won by the convoy. From memory only, something like five Ju 88s were shot down and another three damaged, all from same Gruppe. (I think this can only have been KGr 106.) The individual aircraft losses were listed in the book as a two page appendix. Again from memory one gun crew on one ship were responsible for inflicting approximately half these losses. An extraordinary set of circumstances that I have never seen subsequently mentioned leave alone documented anywhere else. Grateful for any additional light anyone can throw on these events and, if possible, a hint even as to the author and title details of this long lost book. Many thanks. |
