Fw 190D unit at Anring (?) in early May 1945

Hello,

I have recently bought some aircraft cockpit instruments from a WWII veteran. He said that all instruments came from a "long-nosed fighter" which was at Anring AB in early May 1945. One of these instruments was used only on the Fw 190D types. So, it is highly possible that the "long nosed fighter" was a Dora.

I have checked where Anring AB was but found nothing. Does anybody know the whereabouts of Anring and also which Luftwaffe units based there in early May 1945?

Regards,

batur

Google Earth says Ainring is just west of Salzburg in Germany.

Re: Fw 190D unit at Anring (?) in early May 1945

Thanks for the clarification on the name. As far as I found on internet, there were some Fw190Ds of JV44 were based in Ainring at the end of the war. Do you know of any other Fw190D units based there?

Regards,

Batur

..lots of disparate remnants passed through Ainring during April/May 45, usually on their way to Czechoslovakia - but were not necessarily based there..

Fw 190D unit at Ainring May 1945

Two Fw 190 D9 where found by the Allies on the airfield of Ainring.
These two D9 where used by the Jagdverband 44 (Me 262 unit) as "protection flight" (when the Me 262 where slowing to come back home and land).

You can find a lot of photos of these two D9 and their story in "Doras of the Galland Cicrus" published in 1999 by Jerry Crandall (eagles editions).

Old Thread revival!

Looking for a good quality aerial pic of Ainring. The one from the thread above (gearthhacks) doesn't work anymore!

Visiting the area in a few weeks and wanted to try and take pics of any surviving structures~

Always

Re: Fw 190D unit at Anring (?) in early May 1945

This cannot be Ainring. Ainring a/f is now a residential area. This must be Salzburg airport, successor of Salzburg-Maxglan on the other side of the border (Saalach river)
