A bf 109E ' s motor was camed up to the surface again

Hi,

Yesterday (04/21/02006) a wreck of a Bf 109 E's motor was camed up to the surface again from the Mediterranean Sea near the city of Marseille (France).

An article in the local newspaper "La Provence" related that this motor was found near the place where the wreck of Saint Exupery's plane was found. It is a Daimler Benz maded by Skoda in Czeschoslovakia. Its serial number is 601 315.

Apparently an archeological submarine firm from Bavaria has the mission to restore it and to search the story of this plane. The date and the conditions of the crash landing are unknown.

I apologize for my rusty english :-)

best regards

Interesting Skoda emblem as reported in the DB 601, thanks for sharing!

Could that be a cannon barrel protruding from/through the propellor shaft; i.e., in the view of the motor suspended underwater?

I think so.

On this photo it's a rear of the engine so it's possible that this is cannon barrel.
What kind of DB 601 is it? N or E?
