P/O J.J. McElligott, 12 Sqn., 19 May 1940.

A relative of Pilot Officer James Joseph McElligott has asked me to post an appeal here for him. P/O McElligott died as a result of his Fairey Battle, L5538 'PH-A', from 12 Squadron being shot down in France on 19 May 1940.
I have sent him some saved EBay images of this aircraft. Useful, but unfortunately none show the serial. He has access to the 12 Sqn. ORB, various published works, etc. He asks if anyone has a photo of his relative, P/O J.J. McElligott, or a better image of Battle L5538 showing the serial.

Hoping someone can help.

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.

Hi Martin,

there are these photo from e-bay from year 2018 on PHoA:

But serial number is not visible, so I´m not sure if this is requested machine....

Thanks Faenor,

I believe that aircraft is L5538, based on the entries in the 12 Squadron ORB. Hopefully, some images will turn up showing the serial.

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.

Martin,

Looking at the photos of PH-A that I have. I cannot see any serial number on the rear fuselage or on the fin. I've tried enlarging the photos but no luck.

Re: P/O J.J. McElligott, 12 Sqn., 19 May 1940.

Luke McElligott tells me:
I was not asking for pictures of the serial number, I just wanted high quality copies of any pictures of the aircraft, which I would pay for if required.

Could members who have responded, G-ASEA and Faenor, to get in contact with me to discuss if I can somehow get high quality copies of their images of PH-A L5538.

There are a load of relatives of the pilot who would be very grateful.

Hi Nick Beale,

I have just the copy of the photos from e-bay, just with the name of the auction.

These photos I already shared on link modelari.org, so I can´t help more.
