He111 confusion...

Hi, folks...

One of Ed West's recent offerings... any ideas about this Heinkel He111... ? Clearly coded as an 8.Staffel/KG40 machine, but carrying the emblem of 11.Staffel/KG1... ?

Regards

Re: He111 confusion...

According to "Luftwaffe Codes, Markings and Units 1939-45" by Rosch [Schiffer, 1995] 8./KG40 was formed from 2./KG 1 in April 1941, so I suppose there could be a number of reasons why this example retained the KG 1 emblem at the time the photo was taken...

cheers

Re: He111 confusion...

Hi, Peter...

Many thanks for your quick response. I have to embarrassingly admit that I have Mr Rosch's very publication by my side here at my computer... ! Perhaps if I'd taken to looking through it, I wouldn't have been so confused in the first place...

Oh well, what are Sunday lunchtimes for anyway...?

Best wishes...

Re: He111 confusion...

I have III/KG 40 being formed from I/KG 1 24 Mar 41 at Brest Lanveoc and I have them still using KG 1's codes (V4) up to (at least) 11 May 41

In Croke Park or because of Croke Park? One lives in hope-all I have had all day is how England gave us the Grand Slam and how much better England were because they put more points over you lot. Still, who has the silverware? Happy St Paddy's Day!

Good to see Welsh rugby back from the wilderness. Took a Kiwi coach to turn things around. Ireland must wish they hadn't got rid of him.
