Oblt Werner Lemme

Please could somebody help me with a bit of career history?

A friend has purchased some papers relating to a WW2 Luftwaffe officer named Oblt Werner Lemme, who was born on 21 October 1912 in Posen. All we know about him other than that is he won medals during the annexation of Czechoslovakia and Austria and a bomber clasp in silver. Luftwaffe service began in 1935 and the record dries up for no evident reason in August 1941 when he was with KG3. The question is what happened after that?

Our searches have revealed an Uffz of the same name killed on 16 May 1944 but probably unconnected unless our man managed to get busted from Oblt down to Uffz.

While I’m only a green stick with this sort of research I’m confident that somebody on this forum will be able to provide either answers or pointers as to where to head next. Thanks in advance.

Re: Oblt Werner Lemme

Hi D.S.,

LEMME, Werner. 01.07.39 Oblt., trf from I. of K/88 Legion Condor to KG 3.

This is all we have in our data base of Luftwaffe officers. It looks like he just drops off the radar screen, so to speak. My guesses would include dying of natural causes, e.g., heart attack, a voluntary transfer to another branch of service, e.g., Heer, Kriegsmarine, etc., got into trouble and was arrested and imprisoned, very severely injured in an accident and permanently cashiered, etc.

Hopefully, someone else may have something on him.

L.

Just a bit more thanks. Tom Kracker is the owner of the paperwork and he has asked me to express his sincere thanks for what you provided. I can tell you he's absolutely delighted. TK is the gent who runs Kracker Database which is on the Aircrew Remembered website.

So, thank you very much.

Dave

Question Re: Oblt Werner Lemme

Thank you Fran. I have passed the material on to Tom Kracker, who is delighted with it. He sends his grateful thanks.

I did attempt to respond earlier but I didn't follow the posting instructions properly, so hopefully this one will work. Tom asks whether there is anything written on the reverse of the picture, especially a date?

Best wishes

Dave

Hi,

I have just bought a sterbebild for his gunner - Karl Oberbreier who was killed in the crash.

I will post a picture of it tomorrow.
