FAA 796 Squadron - RNAS Tanga - crash 5 May 1943

On 5 May 1943 Sub Lt J. Elder, Sub Lt D. Evans and Leading Airman G. Astley were killed in an air crash.

They were with FAA 796 Squadron, at that time stationed at HMS Kilele (RNAS Tanga) in then so called Tanganyika, East Africa.

I believe 796 Squadron had Albacore, Walrus and Swordfish types. It also had cooperated in the Madagascar operations.

But what aircraft was in the 5 May 1943 crash?

Thanks for info.

Regards,

Leendert

Col,

Thanks for this info.

If details about Lt R. Buckeridge, FAA 806 Sqdn, killed on 9 June 1943, HMS Kilele, are available, equally welcome.

Regards,

Leendert
