Temporary landing grounds?

During Desert Storm, did US and Allied aircraft always operate from permanent bases or were there any temporary landing grounds like WWII PSP or something similar? I am especially thinking about the RAF and USMC Harriers.

May be that contemporary jets needed too much runway, when loaded, to justify temporary landing grounds?

Re: Temporary landing grounds?

John,

Perhaps not an especially laid out airfield as such, but Tanajib was used as a forward base for USMC Harriers during Desert Storm.
And the amphibious carrier USS Nassau was also used as an Harrier platform.
There also was the forward Lonesome Dove base near Al Khanjar (spelled like this), but I believe this was for USMC helicopter operations only.

Regards,

Leendert
