Luftwaffe Units at Tiiksjärvi?

Luftwaffe operated several reconnaissance planes at Tiiksjärvi Aerodrome during 1942-1944 but that's not the information I'm looking for. The right question is which Luftwaffe units were based at Tiiksjärvi? I know there were at least a Flak Battery.

VVS's Polikarpov R-5s attacked the base usually once a night during the trench warfare and killed & wounded also a few germans [1] and now I'm trying to find more about these people through their units.

[1] For example on 13th April 1942 when two or more R-5s bombed the Tiiksjärvi Aerodrome and left three or four Germans wounded. Source: SPK-7944, National Archives of Finland.

No. They don't tell me what units were based at Tiiksjärvi, only those which were based in Lapland!

Suomen Ilmailuhistoriallinen Lehti? There's a few articles from the units operating from the field but no information about the ground units. Hannu Valtonen's book "Luftwaffen pohjoinen sivusta: Saksan ilmavoimat Suomessa ja Pohjois-Norjassa 1941-1944" could contain the info I need but I don't remember seeing much information about the ground units when I last time look it through.

Re: Luftwaffe Units at Tiiksjärvi?

Maybe this info are available but not published. Have you try direct contact with maybe Kari Stenman or Pentti Manninen, maybe they have something. BVy the way I think in one older book about Blenheim in Finland is mentioned attack on this place. This was short summary in English, maybe in the main content have a bit more [just hope- the subject of book is airplane, no need to write much about ground forces].

Cheers

Re: Luftwaffe Units at Tiiksjärvi?

Hi, Martti

Regarding the ground units I think there must be more information in the Finnish Archives.

This area was the responsibility of the Finnish Luftwaffe during the war, with the Luftflotte 5 'Grenze für Aufklärung und Kampf' being north of Tiiksjärvi and ditto for the Luftflotte 1 in the south, and I do believe the finnish liason officer to the Lfl. 5 and the same for Lfl.1 would report this.

I do know as a fact that the reports from this liason officer do exist, just havent had the time to research all of it yet.

Please contact me for further information.

Regards,
Andreas B

Hello Andreas

Yeah, The National Archive has some documents from Bundesarchiv (Luftflotte 5) in microfilm and the reports from Finnish Officer (Yhteisesikunta Roi) but I just wanted to save some time by not going through the "whole" Finnish archive material, just the files I'm interested. But it seems there's little information about the subject in printed form so I quess I still have to do own research on the subject!
