Oberleutnant Friedrich II./NJG 4

Hi Guys

Was hoping that somebody could help me with the forename of this pilot who claimed Halifax's as an Oberleutnant on 24th October 1942 at 2150 hrs and 6th December 1942 at 1929 hrs. I am 90% sure it's not Gerhard Friedrich. The only other Friedrich I can find that fits the picture is Hauptmann Günther Friedrich who claimed three British heavy bombers between 28th May 1943 and 23rd June 1943 with the Staff of NJG 1 and killed on 27th September 1943, the rank progression and Staff details are a good match.

Grateful for any assistance.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Oberleutnant Friedrich II./NJG 4

I have him as Gerhard who went to 10/NJG 4 & with Ofw Wilhelm Geissen claimed a kill on 16-17 Apr 43. He was then with I/NJG 6 as we all know and both were killed in 1945. However I could be wrong

Re: Oberleutnant Friedrich II./NJG 4

Gents,

A quick look in the claimlists of the Chef.Abt.für Auszeichnungen und Disziplin from Luftwaffen Personalamt shows that we are talking about two different pilots:

The first claim was made by Oblt. Günther Friedrich (II./NJG 2), he is the one who joined the Stab NJG 1.
The second claim was made by Oblt. Gerhard Friedrich (II./NJG 4) who later joined I./NJG 6 as described by Chris.

All the best, Marcel

Marcel

Is this in some way difficult to establish?

Reason I ask is that Nachtjagd war diaries Vol 1, page 137 list for the second claim Günther Friedrich Stab II./NJG 2 and makes no mention of any Gerhard Friedrich.

Cheers
Stig

Without looking at Larry & Doug's site, Gerhard was the DKiG & RK winner who started with Stab III/NJG 1 in Jun 42, in April 43 was with 10/NJG 4 after which he went to I/NJG 6

Chris,

According the Abschusstafeln NJG 1 Oblt. Gerhard Friedrich was in June 1942 with the Stab III./NJG 1

Re: Oberleutnant Friedrich II./NJG 4

Hi Guys

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have checked the micro films, and it would appear that both claims were made with the Staff of II./NJG 4, not Staff of II./NJG 2, it states NJG 4 on the micro film clearly, further more the staffel claims numbers are consecutive. I originally attributed then to Gerhard Friedrich, but now think it's probably another Friedrich, though there ranks are the same. Obermeier's biography states thirty confirmed claims, with these two I have thirty-two!

Regards

Johannes
