Re: Another claim - Maisach A/F 03/04 Sep 44

All,

Another Sammy Hoare claim, this time on the 03-04 September 1944, he seemed to have quite a claim on this sortie!

‘Mosquito then proceeded to MAISACH A/F (4813N – 1116E) which was well the bright moon. A S/E E/A was seen on the A/F , and at 0112 hours this was attacked with machine guns from about 1,000 to 500 feet. Strikes were registered , and this A/C is claimed as damaged.

Not saw if anyone can help.

Thanks

Danny

The Luftwaffe airfield at those coordinates was called Fürstenfeldbrück, even though it lay 1.17 km S of the small village of Maisach. The considerably larger village of Fürstenfeldbrück was 3.6 km S of the airfield.

Correct spelling: Fürstenfeldbruck, the Americans later called it simply 'Fursty', ignoring the 'ü' (not in their alphabet)
