FAA losses.

After some details of 2 FAA aircraft losses if anyone can help.

23/7/1942 Swordfish V4365 HMS Grebe Dekheila Egypt. Crew known but no loss details.

13/1/1944 LAC Albert Creighton Summers , lost on a night training flight buried Flatrock Oak Ridge Cemetery MI USA. H.M.S. Saker , death at Grosse Ile, Wayne, Michigan, USA.

FAA, 815 Sqn, Grebe, air operations
DIXON, Oliver, Ty/Sub Lieutenant (A), RNVR, missing
NEWBOLD, Harold G, Ty/Sub Lieutenant (A), RNVR, missing
WAY, William E, Ty/Act/Leading Airman, FAA/JX 223661, missing

13/01/1944.
Grumman Wildcat serial No: 16012 of (if I understand correctly ) VRF-3, at Tucson, Arizona.
Can someone please confirm or otherwise ?

Not sure on that Alex , Grosse Ile airfield is in Michigan bit of a trek across the country. HMS Saker was listed for numerous bases around the NW USA. But a Wildcat would account for a single casualty.

16012 was on a ferry flight from Big Springs TX to Litchfield Park and ran out of fuel just short of Tucson. It was being flown by a Lt(jg) Miller of VRF-3. There is therefore no connection with the Summers loss.

13.1.44 Summers, A. C - LA - Grosse Ile - N2S-3 - 07151 - Hit trees dived into canal.

FAA A/C 1939 to 1945/Sturtivant/A-B/p.484
