Bf 109 E Pilot's Notes

I have been asked if there is such a thing available. I know that you can get it for the Bf 109 G. Also has the analysis by the RAE of the performance of a captured E been published?

Yes, Crecy put out a 36-page booklet, "Pilot's Notes for Messerschmitt Bf109: Technical Data and Handling Notes" as part of its series, "Pilot's Notes Collection". (My copy was published in 2000 -- see photo below.)

It covers three variants:
  • Bf 109E (14 pages)
This section is based on a report produced by RAE Farnborough on a 109E that was tested in September 1940. (Probably Bf 109E-3 WNr. 1304, based on the info in Butler's "War Prizes")
  • Bf 109T (12 pages)
Based on a translation of a document captured by British Air Intelligence in July 1941, namely "L.Dv.T.2109 T-2: Operational Instructions & Operation and Maintenance of the Aircraft"
  • Bf 109G-2 (5 pages)
Technical data for the 109G-2/trop captured in December 1942, from a description produced by RAF Middle East officers.

Here's one more resource for you:
"Fighter Combat Comparison No. 2: Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 vs. Supermarine Spitfire Mk. 1A" by Tacitus Publications, 1973, 27 pages

Content:
  • Introductory info on development and operational use (8 pages)
  • Design analysis (6 pages)
  • Energy-Maneuverability comparison (11 pages, incl. several graphs)
  • Conclusion (2 pages)
Regards,
Leon Venter

Morgan & Morris' Handling and Manoeuvrability report can be found here.

If you mean speed and climb performance, RAE didn't do any detailed measurements in this plane. Apparently, they relied on the (preliminary) ones carried by the french at CEMA, as indicated in that report.
