He 111 seen hit over London 15 Sept 40
I have an eye-witness account from the ground of a He 111 seen being attacked and set on fire by a Spitfire over London (north of the Thames) on 15 September.
Does anyone have any idea as to a specific He 111 or Spitfire involved? I note that The witness saw this through a gap in the clouds and recalled the cloud cover on that day. Most of the He 111s in the afternoon attack on London seem to have been attacked south of the Thames. Many appear to have turned before they would have been visible from north of the Thames. thanks, David Isby

Alfred Price's "Battle of Britain Day" could well have an answer.

Sorry, but the words 'needle' and 'haystack' spring to mind...

Hence my shot-gunned He 111 losses for that day listed previously - take your pick. At least, I guess, its a fairly small haystack.
