11 May 1942 - Ju 88 loss near Selsey Bill

340 Squadron (Capitaine Fayolle) is reported to have shot down a (reconaissance?) Junkers 88 around 19:45hs near Selsey Bill, on the 11th May 1942. This victory is well written on the book "La vieille Équipe" from Dupérier and I would like to identify it.

Thanks
Adriano

Hello Chris,

I had tried earlier this site: http://www.wiki.luftwaffedata.co.uk/...._Gr._123_1942

But got no joy...Strangely Dupérier do report that the crew should have been very important, since the Luftwaffe sent a number of fighters and boats to search for the crew on his "War Diaries" (La Vieille Équipe), pg.132, from which I do quote on the original French Language: "L'appareil devait compter dasn son équipage quelque haute personalité de la Luftwaffe, car les Allemands envoyèrent sur les lieux bon nombre de chasseurs, ainsi que plusieurs vedettes de sauvetage; mais tout cela en vain."

Thanks for sharing the machine and crew. Very interesting.

Adriano

Maybe they radioed before they crashed which gave an indication of the crash location. It would then be SOP to try & find them. No evidence I can see that they were that important
