About Luftwaffe Ar96 recovered and used by French Army Air Force

Please, at the end of the war the Armée de l’Air française (French Air Force) used many German aircrafts before French air factories could could be able to built new / modern ones (some jets) a/c.
Among these German a/c were Arado 96.
Please, do you know if an Allied database/archive give the listing of these Ar 96 found in Germany and given to French army ?
Were only Ar 96 found in French zone ?
I would like to know what were this a/c ? Coming from which Luftwaffe school units … and to identify the units of the new owners ..

Perhaps a book gives a detailed or an overall study about that field of History ?

Merry Christmas !
Philippe

Re: About Luftwaffe Ar96 recovered and used by French Army Air Force

Bonjour,
In my file, i have no record of flyable Arado 96 found in France (1944/45) or in the french occupation zone (south west Germany) in 1945.
80 (or 88 the number differs with the source) Ar 96 where given by the British to the French in 1946.
These planes have been collected by the British in northern Germany and left in the open on the airfield of Leck.
In summer 1946 french fighters pilots where send to Leck to come back to France with these Arado. All the ferry pilots I meet told me that they have to make a stop on the airfield of Strasbourg-Entsheim where was the "official gate" for all the former german planes entering in France.
The plane where in bad shape and given to the french without any record of former use or log book to know their former flying time.
The best planes where used by the french air force and 20 worst Ar 96 where grounded after their arrival in Cognac to be used as source for spare parts.
I do not found a record of the Werck Nummern of these planes in the french archives.
Joyeux Noël.

Re: About Luftwaffe Ar96 recovered and used by French Army Air Force

Hello gentlemen!

This is very interesting for me!
I wonder what happend to all the planes from the
captured airfields in the southwest of Germany( Neuhausen,
Baltringen, Risstissen, Reichenbach, Laupheim...)
There were a big number of Ar 96 on these airfields
belonging to FFS A 23, FFS A 116 and JG 106.
I know that a big stock of Arado spare parts was
destroyed by french army at Baltringen / Mietingen.

Herzliche Grüsse aus Oberschwaben,

Wolfgang

A better book by the same author is «War prizes». This book containe a whole chapter about ex. Luftwaffe aircraft assigned to France after the war. It is mentioned that a total og 88 Ar. 96B werere taken over including 28 for use as spares. IT seems that only four W.nr. are known, 450069, 450219, 450282 and 450467.
