Artillery Spotter Loss 18.9.44

Are there any details about an artillery spotter (Auster, Stinson?) loss on 18.9.1944 near Hasselt-Maatricht around 12.00 hours? JG 6 claimed one and I would like to know if this was true.

John

You can check this website:
https://www.royalartilleryunitsnethe...1944-1945.com/

In the regiment in Action you have histories of 12 AOP squadrons (but only when they are in Netherlands) and also of tens of US artillery units.

But as you area is on the Belgian-Dutch border, it may not be included in the above site.

Re: Artillery Spotter Loss 18.9.44

Not surprisingly when No. 653, 658 and 662 Squadrons with their Austers were all making moves to or were at Leopoldsburg (or Bourg Leopold in their ORBs) around 18 Sep 1944...

Stabsfeldwebel Böker (1912-1944) is buried at Lommel, Belgium.

Re: Artillery Spotter Loss 18.9.44

Hello
The source of this information is Guy Destrebecq but since a long time sadly missing, we called him the “Wing Commander” he passed most of his time in the Brussels air museum
As he was from the old school , the information are either vocals or papers , I will check in my M3 of documents …
Regards
Phil

Just a quick shot.
May Guy live through this post, the forerunner of most Belgian researchers. He was a primary source as Flupke said.

2.(H)/10 did not exist anymore than......so I think we need to research this loss further before I will take as granted that this is indeed a Fi 156 loss....

Re: Artillery Spotter Loss 18.9.44

Just NW of liberated Leopoldsburg the heavy Battle of G(h)eel ('Battle for the Locks') was raging between German and British (15th Scottish Div) troops.

On the other hand, if claim was between Hasselt and Masstricht, then relatively off.

If Storch after all, then perhaps on a German recce mission related to above battle.

Leendert
