Re: Luftwaffe Losses over Falmouth May 1941
An unidentified German airman was buried in Falmouth on 16th June 1941. He was later identified as A Fischer as his name has been written into the burial records.

Re: 27-28 May 4./KG55 He 111H-8 (3867) G1+AM.
This plane crashed off the north coast of Cornwall, during a sortie over the Bristol Channel, so this may not be the plane reported shot down over Falmouth. The three crew members who were recovered from the sea were found quite some distance apart - Martin Gobel was originally buried at St Andrews Churchyard, Alwington, north Devon Kurt Nuglan was originally buried at Pembroke Dock Military Cemetery, Pembrokeshire Otto Stadel was originally buried at Padstow Cemetery, Cornwall. His body was recovered from the sea 1/2 mile off Port Isaac and landed at Padstow on the 19th June. All three have been reburied at Cannock Chase. |
