Plt Off Peter Cleaver 68 Sqn

Can anyone confirm that Cleaver was flying X7842 on the night of 24-25 Jun 42 when he shot down a Do 217 and can they confirm that Sgt Nairn was his nav/rad and what were Nairn's initials?

Re: Plt Off Peter Cleaver 68 Sqn

I made notes from 68 Sqd. ORB some years ago as follows - 25/26-6-42 Do 217 claimed by P/O Cleaver and F/Sgt. Nairn in Beaufighter X7842 of 68 Sqd. from Coltishall t/up 2340 hrs t/down 0250hrs. Bombs dropped on Yarmouth. Looks like I had the wrong date.

Regards

Brian Bines

Just checked Home Office records - 24/25th June raid on Nuneaton, 25/26th June no incidents, 26/27th June raid on Norwich, 27/28 and 28/29th June raids on Wedton-Super-Mare

Thanks Brian. That would explain the 2 swastikas on the nose of X7842 which was this kill (possibly II/KG 40) and 30 Jul 42 (6/KG 2). Now for Nairn's initials!

I see he was the victim of an earlier own side shoot down -http://www.yorkshire-aircraft.co.uk/aircraft/yorkshire/york41/t2324.html
