Re: Leutnant Heinrich Bucksch KIA16/5/40

Hello,

I don't turn up any confirmed photos of this crash in our EoE Photo DB, which could be one possible source for this W.Nr. data. Does anyone know if any contemporary crash-site photos exist for this crash?

Regards,

Larry Hickey

Thanks John

I have added the batch to Mankau/Petrick's book and put it under ¨C-3 uncfd¨.
Let's see if there appear something in the future which may or may not confirm
such an assumption....

Cheers
Stig

Have now checked this matter. There is with NVM two documents:
- Nr 3673/40 from Stab IV.Flieger-Korps, telling how the remains of the aircraft were found and the crew buried. This contains the code 2N+HH of the aircraft.
- Nr 9026/40 from Stab Luftflottenkommando 2, which tells the Werknr. 983 and again the code 2N+HH.
So far I have found no reason to question these war-time documents.

Re: Leutnant Heinrich Bucksch KIA16/5/40

Many thanks for the further input Matti. I have amended my loss list entry accordingly:

1./ZG1 Messerschmitt Bf110C-1 (983). Shot down in combat with Hurricanes and crashed near Walemstraat in Mechelen, north-west of Brussels, 6.00 p.m. Possibly that claimed by F/O Rayner of No. 87 Squadron. FF Lt Heinrich Bucksch and BF Gefr Heinz-Werner Roth both killed. Aircraft 2N+HH 100% write-off.
An alternative source suggests this was a Bf110C-3 (1863) a sub-type resulting from the fitment of improved MG-FF/M 20mm cannon armament to Bf110C-1s recorded instances of which (with serials in the 1855-1863 range) are documented in contemporary loss records for I./ZG1 from this date.

Until such time as my original source comes up with some documentary evidence to support their contention this is how things will stand. Thanks again for taking the time to resolve this discrepancy.
