Hello Steve,

I don't know what source you are quoting but I have the following listed on 21 August 1940 ?

4./KG54 Junkers Ju88A-1 (6086). Engines damaged by AA fire during sortie to attack Brize Norton airfield then shot down by Blue Section of No.17 Squadron (S/L C.W. Williams, P/O H.A.C. Bird-Wilson, and P/O J.K. Ross) and crashed at Marsh Farm, Earnley, 4.15 p.m. BO Hptmn Lothar Maiwald (Staffelkapitän), and FF Oberfw Heinz Apollony both captured unhurt, BF Uffz Kurt Miethner, and BS Uffz Helmut Hempel both captured wounded. Aircraft B3+BM 100% write-off. (Radtke)
Due to the severity of his injuries, Helmut Hempel was repatriated to Germany in October 1943.

I contacted Apollony and Miethner some years ago and Bird-Wilson had photos of the crash-their accounts and photos are in my Luftwaffe's Battle of Britain: The Bombers Battle if you are interested

Re: Hptm Mainwald 8/KG30 22.8.40

Morning Peter, thanks for clearing that one up, no loss recorded then for the 22.8.40 i take it?

I have two others you may be able to help with perhaps.

30.9.40 9/KG30 4D+AT W.Nr 5062 4 nco's killed in a crash at Kamenz. Could you help with the missing crew names/ functions.

8.10.40 Hptm Von Symonski and crew lost in a crash at Dorenberg, could you help with detail of his crew names and functions.

None of this is recorded in BoBTN or other titles i have on hand.

Kindest regs,
Steve.
