Errata on Bodenplatte

Within a couple of days I will post here an errata sheet for the Bodenplatte book. By no means this should be considered final, I am convinced there are more errors.....if you find any, let me know!

Regards,

John Manrho.

Thumbs up Re: Errata on Bodenplatte

Thanks John.

I really don´t know why most know publishes do not have an errata sector on their web pages. It looks a nice service for buyers, not? It´s interesting Luftfahrt Verlag downloaded French translations also.
I have suggested this to Adler Editora about our Fw58 book, udpates, corrections and translations.

Re: Errata on Bodenplatte

Hello Sergio,

thanks. I also think Errata sheets should be done more often. We also see Nick Beale doing it on his site. Indeed publishers most of the time have a website, but I think it is up to the authors!

cheers,

John.

Re: Errata on Bodenplatte

Hello Christian, yes, this concerns pictures too. I believe you acquired picture of Maj. Vowinckel, correct? I have the logobooks and all the pics from Maj. Vowinckel. The originals come from the family. Cheers, John.

Hi John,
I wholeheartetly agree with you. If we all research until we are 100 % sure, we will never publish anything on a Luftwaffe subject. I "borrowed" Nick's idea on my WEB-site. And went one step further. I made parts of my incomplete database public. And I have had hundreds of responses, corrections and comments. In this way my research have progressed more in the last 2 years than it did over the last 20. And having an Errata page is in my opinion a fair service to my customers. But as you said it is an author and not a publisher issue.

Re: Errata on Bodenplatte

I was lucky enough to pick up a copy of the book at the Smithsonian Air & Space museum in Washington DC. Excellent work and thanks for the errata/updates.

Possibly because I make more mistakes than other authors!

Re: Errata on Bodenplatte

Hi Nick,
I believe in "good enough within a reasonable time" rather than "perfect in a millenium" and in this line of research it is astounding what kind of new material suddenly surfaces.

Re: Timing

Hello SES, I think there is a balance between timing and accuracy for every book. Take Bodenplatte. Several books (Start im M., Battle for the A/F, Prien series) already published a lot about it. So if you decide to make a new one it should be very thorough and therefore time consuming.

The same goes for if you want to write book about a very specific detailed subject, like "KG 40 operations from Bordeaux-Merignac", then you should be very thorough. If you have a more broader subject, say "Air War over France", then it's another matter.

cheers,

John.
